This last weekend our family went to the zoo. The kid’s favorite part of the zoo was watching the monkeys swinging back and forth through the trees. We decided that time we would all sit down on the bench that was in front of the cage and we watched them forever. I didn’t think the kids would ever get tired but as it turned out we watched them for nearly 2 hours.

Anna who is 6 made the comment it was fun watching them swinging from one branch to another branch. Instead of using all 4 of those legs or arms or whatever, most of them used just one leg. At one time they even used their tail to hang on to a branch. The amazing thing was watching them hold on to a branch while they were eating.

These monkeys were just swinging from tree to tree without even noticing anyone is watching them. It seem like they all got along so well. Even if you sat long enough it would seem like two monkeys were a couple the way they acted. You could watch them just looking at each other, as though they were in love.

The kids finally got tired of watching the monkeys swinging back and forth on the trees, so we moved on to the elephants. The kids wanted to watch them for a while so once again we sat down on the bench. It was time for the elephants to be fed so we watched that. It was funny how one elephant would hold some grass by their trunk and play with it first before they ate it. I heard one of the zoo keepers say to one of the elephants to come here Elvis, and the elephant marched right over to him. Now of course, I was getting interested because Elvis was my idol so I wanted to see what tricks Elvis could do being he was an elephant.

The trainer told him to dance, then to lie down, and he kept up with a few more tricks also. The whole time the elephant was standing up, Elvis was swinging his trunk back and forth. One time, he got some water in his snoot and sprayed it on the trainer. Everyone just laughed when that happened. By the looks of it, you would think they were having a water fight, because the trainer picked up the water hose and started spraying Elvis.
